I started a webcomic!

Listening to: Air - Talkie Walkie
Drinking: earl grey tea
Reading: "The Elegant Universe" by Brian Greene

Yes, it's true. It's called Self-Administered Comics and it's primarily comprised of little moments that I find myself hanging onto a bit too tightly and telling friends about over and over, ad nauseum. This is a process that helps me get them out of my system, like throwing a stone with the name of your ex written on it off a cliff and letting them go. Thus the name. I've drawn a few of these so far but I'm going to start out by posting a new one each week (in case I get caught up with another project). I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I enjoy drawing them!

there are things that drift away, like our endless numbered days...

Listening to: Air - Moon Safari
Drinking: fresh squeezed tangelo juice
Reading: Elizabeth Gilbert, "Eat, Pray, Love"

I just recently moved to a new place and have been painting to make it, as my Aussie friend Jess would say, "prettiful". It's very Martha Stewart, I know.

The whole room is screened in, so the painting on the door is done in white paint and only really shows up at night. However, during the day it appears almost like etched glass. Kind of a cool effect.

This is a tattoo I designed yesterday for one of my neighbors. She is getting it done in white ink which I imagine should be lovely.

Going to be sending the next draft of Consolation to my editor this week and am prepared for lots of awesome feedback!

Birthday comics

Listening to: David Bowie - Heathen
Drinking: ice water
Checking out: Gregory Euclide's amazing art

This is my friend and fellow Seattlite Jeff whom I have lived with here in Hawaii for several months and who is, sadly, returning home tomorrow morning.

A few weeks ago he asked me to draw two comic strips that he wrote for his girlfriend's birthday (which was yesterday) in exchange for a few bowls of incredible homemade guacamole (yes, it's THAT good). I'm posting them for your reading pleasure.

Jungle-ized workspace

Listening to: Jefferson Airplane radio on Pandora
Drinking: Limeade
Just watched: Contact

Sorry about the long break between posts; I seem to be spending less and less time on the computer these days and more time out running around keeping busy or drawing. I suppose that's a good thing.

I finally have my new workspace all set up and am starting up work again on PyrE13 to finish the first issue. Getting the desk to Hawaii cost more than the desk itself but it was definitely worth it because this one rolls around and is an actual drafting table (as opposed to a level surface which is generally bad for backs and successful perspective drawings). The benefit of the wheels is that I don't need to buy a chair; I can just sit on the side of my bed.

Speaking of which, I'm off to sleep. PyrE13 comic page photos soon.

... spent too many days wanting...

Listening to: Mates of State - Bring It Back
Drinking: a "Beautiful Stephanie" (basically an earl grey latte)
Reading: "French Milk" - Lucy Knisley

In a few hours I'll be on a plane headed back to Hawaii, already missing my friends and family. I've had bits of time here and there during my visit to do some work on Consolation as well as pick up a few new graphic novels, including "French Milk" by Lucy Knisley, "Unlikely" by Jeffrey Brown and another copy of Craig Thompson's "Blankets" (since mine is in storage, buried in a box underneath a stack of other boxes).

One of the things I did during my visit home was take a trip out to the Olympic Peninsula. I relocated my camera and charger at my mom's house so I was able to get some very nice photos of the trip. Below is the vista from Hurricane Ridge and some awesome-looking tree moss at Crescent Lake.

This is a marker drawing I did while staying overnight in Port Townsend at The Palace Hotel, which was built in 1887 as a boarding house. In the 20's and 30's it was a brothel and was eventually shut down by the the sheriff but today the rooms are still named after the girls who once occupied the rooms.

Seattle Sunsets and Trespassers William Tee

Listening to: Robert Gomez - Pine Sticks and Phosphorus
Eating: Rainier cherries (which are stupid cheap at the moment!)
Reading: 'The Time Traveler's Wife' - Audrey Niffenegger

I'm currently back in Seattle for my sisters wedding, which took place day-before-yesterday (in the Space Needle!!!) It was beautiful and everything went smoothly for the most part. During the reception there was this amazing sunset and being in the Space Needle, we had a fantastic view of it. This iPhone picture is a sorry version of the real thing but it will give you some idea.

Trespassers William just played their first major Seattle show in over a year last Tuesday at the Tractor Tavern along with the amazing and also very funny Robert Gomez. Prior to the show, I hung out up the street in Miro Tea for a few hours, chatting with Mr. Isaac Marion and working on this t-shirt design for Trespassers which, hopefully, will be produced in time for their upcoming five-week European tour.
